Downloaded & verified DVD image(x86_64), wrote to USB stick, and updated system to 12.3 (from RC2). Applied patches. Then the fun begins.
Logged in (to KDE) with my normal ID(gwb). Since I’ve used this $HOME for quite a while, I created a new user (using YAST) to see what a default setup would look like. Logged out, and into new user; looked around, played with Configure Desktop, logged out again. When I tried to login with my regular userid, I got rejected with “Password database may have incorrect permissions” (not sure of exact wording) both at greeter and at Ctl+Alt+F1 prompt. New test user could login OK.
Repair was “login: root” and run “passwd gwb” with same old password. All logins work.
Tried again, creating “testuser2”, again via YAST. Could login to both testusers, but same error using gwb.
Does anybody else see this, or am I just lucky/jinxed?
