I’ve utilized zypper to update a ‘legacy’ laptop from 12.1 to 12.2 to 12.3 successfully over the past year.
I recently completed updating – again using zypper and associated repositories – to 13.1.
After first boot, the desktop graphic server ( XDM session?) crashes.
Reviewing dmesg & logs; its reporting ‘multiple input variables missing’, or something similar, for some configuration file(s). I’ve referenced other forums that mention xOrg conf files and xrandr; but I’m not certain that applies here.
I’ve also noticed in the release notes of this forum that there may be an issue with Radeon hardware in 13.1; or related to kernel module configuration.
Has anyone encounter something similar or have further linked information related to legacy Radeon hardware support within kernel space?
If the problem is about graphical issues,
You can search and find many postings how to resolve, mainly
You should be able to boot into Rescue Mode so you have a running machine while you troubleshoot
enable/disable KMS
Try nomodeset on boot.
You need to identify the Graphics Processor you’re using and if possible the isntalled driver.
In any case,
Whenever you create a new post,
You should be as detailed and precise as possible
You should try to post the actual logs or log excerpts if you think you can identify what is important or note. Small postiings can be embedded in the post using the
tags (hash tag on the tool bar). You can post entire logs to either pastebin or susepaste.org
- You should post a detailed description of your system. If you don't know what to post, the following command will generally be a good start
cat /etc/*release | grep PRETTY_NAME= && uname -a
- Screenshots can be useful
- Exact errors are critically important. Trying to describe something in general is inadequate for getting best advice.
