Hi all,
I’m trying to setup a remote printer that is shared from a windows host.
I have downloaded the ppd for the printer and installed it correctly.
I have installed the printer thus :
Yast->Printer->Print via network->Connection wizard->Windows SMB/CIFS
The settings I have filled in are the print server, the share name, the
workgroup / domain and the manufacturer. I have not filled in the
username and password as I don’t want these saved (in plain text!).
I have then selected the correct driver from the list and set the default
paper size to default to A4, I also set the printer as default as it’s my
only installed printer.
When I print from some applications e.g. firefox and select this printer
I am prompted for my username / password and the document is sent to the
windows print queue and can be released to print. However other
applications e.g. LibreOffice Writer don’t prompt and the job stays in
the local queue. I also get the “Tree connect failed
(NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED)” reported when I next try and print to the
printer.
Two questions really :
-
Is there a way to get the printer to prompt just once per session and
have those credentials used until the user logs out and back in again. -
Is there a way to make sure all programs are able to access the
printer and if credentials have not already been provided, are prompted
for.
One thing of note is that I had to un-install the package
samba_krb_printing otherwise I was getting an insecure permission error
on /usr/lib/backend/cups/smb
Cheers.
Phill.
