12.3, NVIDIA and consoles

After installed 12.3 and Nvidia latest driver 304.84 in the "hard way’ consoles (Ctrl+Alt+Fx) are distorted.
I’d appreciate any clues how to fix it.

Regards.

I had to manually install the 310.32-15.1 version of the nVidia drivers for my system to work properly. You should be able to do a search in the software manager (Yast) to select the driver.

Hope that helps.

Some users experienced distortion with the proprietary nvidia driver and what worked for them was adding their user to group ‘video’ (and then restarting).

it doesn’t support my hardware

thank you but no change :frowning:

Check the values in Yast - System - Bootloader - Bootloader options. Not for GRUB2 itself, but for the console.

Tried various settings: text & graphical console, different resolutions for Vga Mode, “video” kernel parameter and Console resolution with no luck. Sometimes console is completely black, sometimes distorted. :sarcastic: Works properly only when boot in recovery mode.

304.60 required a patch to function reasonably with the 3.7.x kernel. I can not see anything in the 304.84 change history to suggest that was fixed, however it could simply be my lack of knowledge in the detail. Patch to 304.60 for 3.7 driver can be found here: Index of /nvidia_patches

The patch made it working, thank you. It also works for 304.64 driver.
304.84 is fixed to compile on 3.7 but seems something else is broken.

Good news then. Glad to read this is working for you.
