Vendor: nVidia Corporation
Model: Quadro FX 550 (device 014d)
2D driver: nouveau
3D driver: nouveau Gallium (7.11)
HDD: Seagate ST3250820AS
This works fine
Using same PC with OpenSuSE 12.3x64-640110 with another HDD (Western Digital WD5000AZRX)
This worked fine until I was watching a video on Bakken åpnet seg - Aftenposten
and the system crashed.
Restarting I got:
Kernel panic: -not syncing
Watchdog detected hard LOCKUP on CPU0
Panic occured, switching to text console
As this was a testinstall i tried to reinstall OpenSuSE 12.3-64-640110 from DVD after using Killdisk.com on HDD.
I get the message in first reboot:
…
RSP: <fff880118cb9420>
CR2: ffffffffffffd8
Kernel panic: -not syncing
Watchdog detected hard LOCKUP on CPU0
Panic occured, switching to text console
Going back to testing the PC on Seagate HDD and OpenSuSE 12.1 works fine.
With out knowing anything else this looks like a weird hardware error. Have you checked the power supply or maybe you are using different cables for the 2 hard drives or DVD cable. I would file this under random hardware problem that has nothing to do with openSUSE.
I would even suggest testing the memory, you must boot from a live usb like http://www.sysresccd.org/SystemRescueCd_Homepage and run memtest.
