I have a new install OpenSUSE 12.3 KDE 64 bit on a dell inspiron 1564.
since installing and getting every up and running I’ve been having seemingly random system crashes where the whole thing locks up and I get a black screen
with the last line say kernel panic. I then have do a hard shutdown and reboot.
I seems to happen most often when using chromium browser and when I click on the back key.
But it does not seem to be every time or even on particular web pages. But it has happened a couple times while typing a letter for instance.
any Ideas where I should look I know this is not much to go on. But thought maybe someone else was having similar problems and has some idea where to look.

“1952.5313341 Kernel Panic - not syncing: fatal exception in interupt”
the only thing different the second time was the number which was “169.3768061”
Hrm kernel panics, not good.
how did you install openSUSE 12.3?
This may be related to a bad burn, I have had issues like this if the burn did not go well, thus why I use USB disks.

That number is the time since booting, and it would be expected to change. A
fatal exception in interrupt is either a driver problem or a hardware problem.
You need to report more of the info that was output. That last line is not
enough. You can either take a picture and post it, or you can write all those
numbers down. When you see lines like
you can ignore the stuff inside the ]. Only the text like
“warn_slowpath_common+0x7a/0xc0” is important. In addition, the stuff at the top
of the traceback is more important that the lines at the bottom.
In addition, run the memory test on the distribution medium for at least 12
hours to eliminate faulty memory as the reason for the crash.
I installed from DVD and media checked out ok. and just in case i did burn another and reinstalled same problem though. 12.3 don’t like my machine.
this lappy works great with Mint , Ubuntu PClinux OS and others. never had a problem with it just with 12.3. 12.2 even ran on it very well for about 6 months.
Torrent download is the best way to download ISOs as it hash checks each chunk of downloaded data.Something similar is achieved through metalink. Then again i might be wrong
