12.2 won't start after applying patches

In an attempt to get my 12.2 installation up-to-date, I ran zypper patch followed by zypper update. The patches and updates went on without a hitch, but when I rebooted, POST ran, GRUB gave me the list then started openSUSE, the splash screen came up and the little light blobs started floating around but when they got close to coalescing the system froze. I’ve tried a couple of reboots, but no joy. Help please.

When the splash screen (the little light blobs) appears, hit the escape <ESC>
key so that you can see the boot proceed. What is the last thing that appears.
If it is having to run fsck on a hard drive, the process might take a long time.

I could start in recovery mode and then I remembered that I have to reload the Nvidia driver after a kernal update. I reinstalled the NIC and video drivers (thank you James), rebooted and the birds are singing again. Problem solved. I just to read my notes.
