12.2 RC2: why can't Konqueror mount anything?

Hi guys,

it seems that Konqueror cannot mount/open any other hard drives or memory cards or CD/DVD.

I start by clicking the “My computer” icon on the desktop. Here I see my other hard discs (Fat32 and NTFS), but I cannot open them on double clicking. Same happens for a DVD in my DVD drive, and same happens also when I connect my mobile phone. It seems I cannot attach a screenshot to forum posts, otherwise I would do it

When using “Dolphin”, everything works well, but I see a login screen when e.g. mounting a hard disc.

Is this a known issue? Or some limitation?

Best regards

Wolfgang

Still same problem with 12.2 final (fresh installation).

I saw that during installation, I have the option to add a mount point, but by default my FAT32/NTFS discs were not configured to do this. And as I didn’t know what mountpoint to use, I left the defaults and continued installation. Could someone point me to a “how to mount other drives” guide? (yes, I know, google is my friend…)

Next question: is this a bug? As previous versions created default mountpoints, I would think so.

Users aren’t allowed to mount and unmount partitions in the system. What you have to do is use the Yast - System - Partitioner, and add mountpoints for your windu partitions. That way, entries will be made in /etc/fstab and the partitions will be mounted at boot.

Hi Knurpth,

thanks, this worked!

Previous versions created those mount points by default. I assume this is no bug/regression in the installer, but many smarter-than-me people had a lot of discussions about it ;-)? Or is it worth a bug/enhancement report?

Best regards

Wolfgang

If you had openSUSE installed before 12.2 you could have imported the partitioning+mountpoints. The installer would have read the /etc/fstab and reinstated those in the new fstab.
