[12.1] weird brightness control after system startup

i’ve had this issue on 12.1 only (11.3/.4 worked fine)…
every time my laptop logs in and puts me to the desktop, i have to adjust the brightness (this is ok…), however the brightness controls seem to be behaving weirdly as when i do adjust the brightness, it seems to want to retturn to it’s original brightness.
after 20-30secs after the desktop is displayed, the brightness controls perform as normal without issue.

it’s like the brightness control driver/software isnt working correctly for that brief period.
i’ve noticed it on fresh boot, resume from suspend and hibernate, and seem to happen all the time.

ok scratch that, i’ve just booted up from hibernate, and this brightness issue seem to be happening all the time, rather than shortly after boot up.
i’m using KDE 12.1 x64.

Where are you adjusting the brightness? In [KDE] System settings under Power Management?

i’m using the keyboard keys
in the case of Acer laptops, it’s Fn+left/right arrow keys.

if it helps any, the OSD brightness bar does appear using both methods, but while the KDE brightness slider works flawlessly, using the keyboard controls, the OSD lags behind.

Backlight controls/keys should work through an ACPI video module. So something has changed in the new release. It may require a bug report, but first check openSUSE’s bugzilla (see Wiki for howto), as it may already be reported.

You can also adjust in a terminal as your normal user, using command “xbacklight”. To see the options use this command:

xbacklight --help

Entered alone, “xbacklight” will report current brightness. If you reset the brightness with “xbacklight”, the setting will NOT persist across a reboot. Use the KDE Power Management setting for that, so KDE sets your preferred level on startup.

looks like it’s just a problem with the keyboard shortcuts - xbacklight, KDE controls and power profiles all work reliably.
