12.1 system locks up due to indexing programs virtuoso-t, etc.

Hi:

My wife has been using OpenSuse 12.1, with whatever default KDE included.

Now it frequently hangs up with the hard drive light flashing. I ssh-ed to it to try to see what process what being bad, but then it hung too bad to get any response so we power cycled it. Now the disk may have errors.

I was able to gather before killing it that the usual suspects of indexing services, “virtuoso-t”, akonadi, and a whole host of garbage is running under the surface. I suspect this junk is breaking things.

Now all I want to know, is what is this garbage running under the surface that we did not ask to be run, and which is doing nothing useful and instead locking up the PC,

and how to disable it all permanently?

Thanks.

Unfortunately, her disk appeared to have been trashed, but it may have just been a Grub problem, but she went and installed Linux Mint over it anyhow.

Thanks for the interest.

Good day!
