12.1 RC2 Is Now Available

I have tried on 4 PC’s today. I did a zypper dup on 3 of them and a clean install on 1. Nr1 of the 3 was booting(I adjust the partitions manually) and i know that i have to reinstall the ATI prop driver. It was working ok after that. The other two have lost the starting disk (WinXp installed as well).

A reinstall on Nr2 with LiveCD haven’t made the Pc running yet. Pc Nr3 went up after some reinstall with LiveCD.

Pc Nr4 is running after complete reinstall with LiveCD.

All computers have the problem with partitions. All the computers have the problems with network that you have to restart your Pc after the installations after the configuration had finish.

Otherwise things are ok :stuck_out_tongue:

Have I reported bugs? No. Its to complicated and others have done it already. I have managed developers for to many years.

Update:
(5) There is a fix for this on
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/mozilla:/experimental/

New:
(6) Booting in systemd is hit and miss. Says it can’t read system block
for my RAID. OK on 11.4 and systemV.

(7) Very recently, like a few days after I installed 12.1, I get no
wireless connection via ifup after every time I log on. Supposed to
start on boot but doesn’t. I just reconfigure with no changes to restart it.

The two new bugs haven’t been reported yet but I’ll get on it shortly.

Finally I have the Nr 4 PC up and running. It is a HP notebook 6400 with Intel GM 945 Graphics. To have any screencontens after the login i have to add “nomodeset” at startup.

Hello? With that quite common HW…

I still think that 12.1 is a hit. But if Mr or mam noname in nocity living all over the word decide to test and install all Linux people will hear for many years to come what a mess it is. My advise is to not release any GM on friday. It needs more work.

Goldmaster isn’t made public

That has always disappointed me. However, am I correct in saying that IF you use the Factory Repos and Zypper you can get an update consisting of the GM version … after Friday??

Thanks,
Chuck

I normally use NetworkManager. However, I experimented with “ifup” to test it. I configured my wireless connection to start on hotplug (instead of at boot). I also switched to using “dhclient” as DHCP server (based on previous experience that “dhclient” works better with wireless).

It started up fine on reboot tests.

Maybe i have been around a little longer then you. I know perfectly well what GoldMaster means. It will be a mistake to send the contents to CD/DVD manufacturers.

Or have the Opensuse team redefined the meaning of GM?

Thanks for the suggestion but I think I may have misdiagnosed the
problem. I now think - or hope - it only occurs when switching from 11.4
to 12.1. A straight restart of 12.1 exhibits no such problem.

Keyboard shortcuts aren’t working for me.

Alt - F2 doesn’t bring up the run command

Alt - back arrow doesn’t go back a page in the browser

Ctrl-Alt-Del doesn’t bring up the log out prompt

Anyone else having problems with keyboard shortcuts?

@pilotgi - keyboard shortcuts working fine for me, did you try as a new user?

No, you are not correct in saying that
You will have 12.2 factory.

No, if you are using the factory repos and zypper dup, you are already
using 12.2 version.

Has anyone tested the goldmaster? I know it is not made public but the ones who have access to it might share the experience. If so, any issues or bugs that were still in rc2?

As soon as we have it
We will post the results

Go on and make me jealous! :stuck_out_tongue:
By the way, what is needed to have access to GM. Should one apply for beta testing?

It’s a secret society of very exclusive individuals
LOL

Just kidding.

I don’t know who exactly. I expect the devs. But anyone can be a beta tester, so No
The forum admin get it from a Novell server that requires a login. It’s made available by special arrangement and we expect it later today or tomorrow.

I haven’t yet been notified of a fix to a deal-breaker for me, Gnucash,
so I guess some RC2 bugs will still be gracing us with their presence.

May I ask… are the notifications automatic and personal -or- do they get sent out by the developer?? IF the later then it could be he/she forgot or hasn’t had time to send out the Update notices… and it might be fixed. I have found in the past that items not apparently fixed in the last available code for the General Public to test with… were fixed in the Final Release. So you might inquire to the Restricted Elite who get to test the GM -or- just wait for the Final to make your final decisions. Just some thoughts.
Take care,
Chuck

No special privilege needed to be a tester.

You can have the GM code today if you have installed any 12.1 version and have
the following repositories enabled:

http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/12.1/repo/oss/
http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/12.1/repo/non-oss/
http://download.opensuse.org/update/12.1/

To get to 12.1 GM, use the command:

sudo zypper dup

The above will likely upgrade 11.4 to 12.1, but I have not tried it and I am not
responsible if it destroys you system.

BTW, I have been running 12.1 GM since 03:00 UTC on 2011-11-11. No problems.

Larry

I suspect that you get the GM release if you do a new install using the rc2 NET CD, though I haven’t tried it. I’m inclined to wait for the official release.
