I’m a previous OpenSuse KDE user and thought I’d give the gnome version a try. After booting from the live cd I’m prompted to enter login details but for the life of me cannot figure it out and Google searches didn’t find any results. I’ve tried: linux, live, guest, root, left it blank and several other options but it keeps telling me ‘Login incorrect’

as in “the live CD” downloaded from where?

The media checked out okay. I downloaded the iso from http://archive.mmu.edu.my/opensuse/distribution/12.1/iso/openSUSE-12.1-GNOME-LiveCD-x86_64.iso which was a mirror link from the opensuse website. I guess I’ll just use direct link or torrent.

hmmmm…did you also check the iso with md5sum prior to burning? if you
did that then i may be wrong, but i think what you are saying is
impossible, because that disk can’t be correct AND asking for a password
prior to booting…
OH! are you saying it booted up and gave you a black screen with a
password prompt AFTER the green screen where you can select to either
check the medium, or check the memory, or install, or boot from the live
CD??
if so then you probably need to read and follow here:

because you have one of those (several) graphics sets which doesn’t work
with the drivers on the disk…so, if you type in ‘nomodeset’ as talked
about in that cite, it will probably boot up to a GUI without asking for
a password…
on the other hand, if in fact you are getting a password request from a
GUI screen…that is really strange…
