12.1 Error Booting

Hi!

I installed my 64 bit geeko succesfully, but then i couldn’t set up my internet, because it wouldn’t accept my system administrator password (something red was written, but i couldn’t read it because it disappeared so fast). Then when i rebooted the computer, it said sth like: Error, … partition missing, no operating system
and then wrote my mac address.

Was it a problem in the image, or sth else? Would it be safe to download it again, burn it, and than install?

Thank you!

Try installing again

I did twice. I burned the image again and will try right away.

What happens with the media check
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10573557/12.1_install/01_bootsplash.jpg

Burned it again, tried it again, checked the installation media, failed once again. Same error. I’ll try again tomorrow with a live CD instead of the DVD, but if it won’t work i’ll be very sad :frowning: and i loved opensuse so much :frowning:

To clarify, you’re getting booted to a desktop/terminal, you try to setup internet (how?), then on a reboot your partition disappears?

Did you try to cheat by using a weak password?

I did this and got into the same situation.

Had to reinstall with a compliant one.

i can’t set up pretty much anything that demands my root password.

I’ll also try with a more complex pass, even though the one i have now is not by any means weak.

yes, it doesn’t recognize my partition.

Did you unclick “set as administrator password” ? It’s checked by default.

What’s the partition error?

checked the installation media, failed once again.
Unless the media is good, you are wasting your time.
Perhaps you should show us your partition layout for the install and info on any other HD’s in the mix.

Let me show you a simple install guide
https://picasaweb.google.com/107564133608385811033/121_kde_LiveCD_Install

ok, i didn’t write it properly. The media is okay, but the install still failed.

It simply doesn’t recognize my partition and it can’t find an operating system. Then it goes searching for my disk online, but doesn’t find it (cause i don’t have it), and again says, can’t find operating system.

I think you need to show us your partitioning

from a live CD or in Fedora

OK, so this is in my current Fedora 16 install.

I think that is your problem.

and what’s a solution to that problem?

Thank you again!

Back up important files
Format it

Create a traditional partition layout

The traditional partition layout is three partitiions, right?

one swap, one root and one home?

Thank you again, sorry for being a pest!

No.

You are using a GPT partitioning table. We can not use that. We ask that
you destroy your partitioning (and data) and put a new, traditional table,
with as many partitions as you want.

Yes, typically it is.
That’s what I have

I entered the disk partitioner, deleted all partitions, created three new partitions, formatted them, set them as swap, mount and home, and again the same problem occured.

I don’t know what to do now :frowning: it seems it won’t work :frowning:
