12.1 - Auto-login as XBMC Session?

Hi everyone!

I got my media PC up and running with OpenSUSE 12.1 the past couple of days and so far, this OS does EVERYTHING better than the Mandriva 2010.0 it replaced (had that OS for 2 years…it was time to update  ).

The one last piece of the puzzle is auto-login. I would like the box to automatically login my user into the XBMC session on boot. Any ideas how to make this happen?

I’m not worried about accessing Gnome on the console because when I do “behind the scenes” stuff on the box (like ripping my DVD collection or transcoding using Handbrake) I NX into it from my laptop.

Thanks in advance!!!

First you need to set “autologin” for your user: login on GNOME, from the user menu on the right, pick “System Settings”, start “User Accounts”, click “unlock”, enter root password, change “Automatic login” to “ON”.

The login manager remembers the last session you started, so logout of GNOME and login to an XBMC session, then logout. A reboot should now log you in and start the XBMC session straight away.

Please let us know how you got on

Hi
YaST->System->/et/sysconfig Editor Desktop->Display manager and then
DISPLAYMANAGER_AUTOLOGIN variable enter the user name, save, done
