11 X64 Fails Install Encrypted Home

So I used the 11 dvd to install doing an encrypted home and swap partition…

I cant login to KDE, /home all messed up!!!

If I tty1 as root home is mounted so the problem is higher up. I notice no accounts in home as well.

This was a problem during beta that was reported. Its simply lame this was not fixed by the time the 11 release was made.:mad::mad:

I dont know if there an easy fix without reinstalling everything.

If you installed via the 1 cd livecd’s they will not correctly mount the
encrypted partitions due to pam_mount being missing. You will need to go
into the partitioner under Yast and mount them manually (it will install
the needed packages automatically when you do this). I did file a bug
report on this for RC1 but it was listed as an “enhancement” and the tech
claimed the majority of users would not be using encryption.

Thanks for the info

I used the DVD to install not livecd so the problem is there too

Good to see the wisdom in the project decision makers is to leave in known broken functionality and spin it up like a good politician into a later “feature” rather than the truth of it being a “bug”! Go OpenSuse :stuck_out_tongue:

Also, the system will still incorrectly shutdown when a user turns off the logout confirmation checkbox.

good to know this, thanks

I was just planning to install openSUSE on my box & laptop and now I read this

why aren’t they encouraging their users in encrypting data ?

laptops and storage devices are much more likely to be stolen nowadays

do I still need to format the already encrypted /home partition during install (this would be very time-consuming) or can I use an existing encrypted /home partition ?

many thanks in advance
