11.4 to 12.1, Out of Disk Space

I just tried to upgrade from Opensuse 11.4 to 12.1 with a live upgrade using the directions here:
SDB:System upgrade - openSUSE

New packages were being downloaded just, so I left for a while. I returned to find that the downloads had stopped due insufficient disk space in root. The system monitor says I have 0 bytes free or available in /. My natural inclination is to just start uninstalling packages and then continue the upgrade, but Yast will no longer open.

Any thoughts on how I should proceed?

su -
zypper clean --all

reboot

  • Did you backup

And what about to give us a small idea about how big your partition is, show us

df -h

Because when it was allready at 95% before you starrted installing …

Thank you caf, zypper clean is something I wish I had known about sooner. It cleared almost 3 gigs of disk space. More than enough for the upgrade.

Like I said though
Make a backup

FYI: I always do clean installs
