11.4 M6 black screen

Just a quick post on the M6 (x86_64) release.

Gnome boots into a black screen. Just prior to that, there is some message regarding Display Manager, but it cleared too quickly. KDE booted normally.

Motherboard is Asus m3a-78t which has ATI HD3300 video on board.

More on both as time permits.

Hi
What happens if you disable compiz. Press ctrl+alt+F1 and login as your
user.

rm .config/compiz/enable-compiz
touch .config/compiz/disable-compiz
exit

Press ctrl+alt+F7 then press ctrl+alt+<backspace key twice> to restart
the X server.

Thanks for the help. I couldn’t do what you said, but you did point me to the problem.

First, I should have been more clear, that the original error was booting to the live cd.
I installed M6.G to a spare drive and it is working. but it didn’t start that way. on first
boot I had six pretty pop-ups telling me various thing were bad. when I went to try your
suggestion, it turned out i didn’t have a ./config/compiz i had ./config/compiz-1

rebooted to runlevel 3, used zypper to rm compiz, which hung. canceled, did zypper
again and it was removed. reinstalled compiz, reboot. and normal desktop appeared.

this was a clean install to an empty partition. I writing this from the M6 system, and from
the little I’ve been able to try it seems faster than my current 11.2.
