11.4 Integrated Bluetooth Device Not Detected

My onboard bluetooth is not being detected by SUSE 11.4. Fedora 14 has no problem detecting the hardware, but it just doesn’t show up in SUSE 11.4. I have included a few outputs:

lsusb:

Bus 008 Device 002: ID 045e:0745 Microsoft Corp. Nano Transceiver v1.0 for Bluetooth

rfkill list

0: phy0: Wireless LAN
	Soft blocked: no
	Hard blocked: no

hictool dev

Devices:

If I plug in a dongle, the Bluetooth icon shows up in the notification bar, and I’m able to add and remove devices normally. Is there support for my onboard bluetooth device?

Hi and Welcome to the forum :slight_smile:
Can you check the output from opening a terminal and running;

/usr/sbin/rfkill list

If the command isn’t found, then you need to install the rfkill package.

On a side note, if you need to paste logs etc in the future, use SUSE Paste and set the ‘Delete After’ to Never. :slight_smile:

Looks like your card also shows under lsusb.

Thank you for the welcome and looking at this thread! I’ve bookmarked that link for future use for the larger logs, thanks for the tip :slight_smile:

as for the output from rfkill list:

fayk@mercury:~> sudo /usr/sbin/rfkill list
0: phy0: Wireless LAN
	Soft blocked: no
	Hard blocked: no

The only place I see mention of the onboard bluetooth is like J100, in my lsusb list.

Hi
Is there a physical switch or keypress combination to activate the
wireless? Sometimes these are also used for bluetooth devices.

It’s a strange one…

Unfortunately there is not. This is a desktop PC, not a laptop, and I’ve been over all the motherboard switches in the manual, nothing talks about bluetooth. I’ve also ensured that bluetooth is set to enabled in the BIOS.

If I boot to fedora using a live USB disk, it picks up the onboard bluetooth no problem, so I’m fairly sure it’s a software issue :frowning:

Hi
So can you get some information from the fedora system and post here?

Check the output of

lsmod |grep blue

For reference, I get

bluetooth              96350  9 rfcomm,sco,bnep,l2cap,btusb
rfkill                 17298  3 hp_wmi,bluetooth

Maybe the driver is not getting loaded?

Could also be related to this thread…

That thread is related to this issue

Output

lsmod |grep blue

bluetooth 107148 8 sco,bnep,l2cap,btusb
rfkill 21955 4 hp_wmi,bluetooth,cfg80211

out put from lsmod | grep blue

bluetooth             107148  8 hidp,rfcomm,sco,bnep,l2cap,btusb
rfkill                 21955  3 cfg80211,bluetooth

I attempted unloading the USB core module:

fayk@mercury:~> sudo modprobe -r usbcore
FATAL: Module usbcore is builtin

running sudo modprobe usbcore didn’t change anything either.

What information would be useful from fedora? I’d be be happy to grab whatever is needed.

Hi
Same sort of information, output for just the device from;

from lsusb -vv

I used an ubuntu live disk I had laying around (posting from it now actually). It immediately detected the bluetooth on boot. I’ve uploaded the info here:

lsusb -vv

here: SUSE Paste

Hi
All strange indeed… what about the logs in /var/log

cd  /var/log
sudo fgrep bluetooth *

Also what happens if run this;

lsmod |grep ath3

If you see nothing, as root user, run;

modprobe ath3k
hciconfig
