Here is my review of openSUSE 11.4 installation on HP Pavilion dv5-1030en
Hardware specification (ext. link)
AMD Turion X2 Dual Core 2.1GHz
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3450 Graphics
Realtek Gigabit network r8169
Atheros wireless card
320 GB HDD
11.3 worked perfectly on this platform out-of-the-box for 2 years
- Installation
Installed fine as third OS (Vista and 11.3 already installed) no need extra configuring during installation
After installation Grub detected only Vista, no 11.3 menu item. So needed to create menu item later manually.
-
Thermal sensors missing.
in the /proc/acpi there is no longer temperature sensors listed -
On KDE4 load there is a 10s delay
After the desktop appears there are only 3 icons in the tray: bluetooth, battery and info. And during 10 seconds I cannot click anything - every operation hangs. After the delay startup sound plays, missing icons in the tray appear and all click start working.
Very strange. I have seen such delays only in Windows Xp while all services waiting for Rpc service to start. -
By default pressing power button in performance power scheme is set to prompt for log out. But instead of this system hangs like described in previous section. After press nothing happens, if I try to click start menu - the button highlights but the menu does not come. Need to kill session by ctrl+alt+backspace
-
After Yast installed all updates the applet KPackageKit still find 1 more available package to install. So why Yast does not install all needed updates?

After resuming from Suspend to RAM kdeinit4 crashes:

Proprietary ATI drivers work fine
Only minor error in dmesg that has not been seen in 11.3:32.098677] [fglrx:fireglAsyncioIntEnableMsgHandler] ERROR interrupt source ff000066 is not supported on this hardware (return code = 1)
-
Every other hardware seems to work fine like in 11.3
I will continue to test 11.4 until make full upgrade of my current system
Thanks, hope this helps
