11.4 Firefox 4 flash issue

Issue on flash web pages, her are several examples.

This is what happens when you mouse over the flash content on almost any flash page. Makes the site almost unusable as menus and links are constantly disappearing.

Spec:
11.4 64bit
Firefox 4.0.1
Flash 10.2.159,1

So here is one suggestion obtained from another thread here:

Download new driver from: http://itsyourpc.org/bruce/files/libflashplayer.so (Thanks to brucecadieux) We assume it to go into your Downloads folder in your home area:

Using Terminal, Remove The Existing driver:

sudo zypper rm pullin-flash-player flash-player nspluginwrapper

Using Terminal Copy in new Driver:

sudo cp ~/Downloads/libflashplayer.so /usr/lib64/browser-plugins/

Doing this works for me. Tried it on two copies of openSUSE 11.4 & FF 4.0 and one copy of openSUSE 11.3 and FF 4.0 and it worked like a charm.

I am testing flash here at a nVIDIA web site where you can enter a contest to win a PC using flash, till May 31st 2011:

Thank You,

That is to funny, I just found this post in it original thread and had just finished proving it works.

I was about to quote it and declare the issue resolved.

Thanks all

So happy to hear of your success then. So far, it seems to be the only solution until a final product that works is posted.

Thank You,

The fix Jdmcdaniel3 cited worked perfectly!!! ( I was having issues with videos inside of Google Reader, but if I opened the feed item, the video worked fine  )

Thanks!

Do you have a link to this “original thread”?

Firefox on openSUSE 11.4 plays film clips badly

why was firefox 4 used as default browser with known flash issues? its not like opensuse had to go with version 4 over 3.6.16 which does not have issues.

my 32 bit virtual version of opensuse 11.4 does not have the issues but the 64 bit host version does; sorta a joke, isn’t it? firefox seems to be going the way of I.E.;

Hi,
I got the same problem too and tried your fix… does not work and no way to get flash working again… removed flash-player, removed Firefox… re install and still not working!

Well I fixed it by copying libflashplayer.so to ./mozilla/plugins/

When openSUSE 11.4 came out, it was decided that it should include Firefox 4, which was only in beta at the time. Now, Firefox 4 final is out and the choice to go with version 4 was a good one. Still, the flash issue exists, but it is not up to openSUSE to fix that problem. However, we did offer help here in the forum until such time as the final fix is released.

Thank You,

IIRC Flash for 64 bit has always been a bit strange.

Something else strange.
A Mint 10 install I have _64, had an update to FF4.
No flash issues as we have seen here.

So did you look to see what version of flash is being used in Mint? I have 10.3 d162 listed as the working version of flash we switched to.

Thank You,

I have the current 64 bit 11.4 loaded with the standard issue Firefox 4.0 and the flash plug-in is not working as well as the 3.6.16 browser did, but Epiphany works fine! amazing!

I have Firefox 4 opensuse 11.4-32bits and I have a lot of issues when Hardware Acceleration is enabled but I can’t disable it by default even using /etc/adobe/mms.cfg
I need to disable it every time I open a new browser session right clicking on the embedded flash element, also when I click on Flash -> Global Settings nothing happens not even logged in as root

I am using Firefox 4 and openSUSE 11.4-64bit without problem, the Flash test for me is watching TV programs with the BBC iPlayer.

Mint 10 and LMDE 64bit distro’s also work well but Debian 64bit Stable or Testing will freeze after some minutes no matter what version of Flash or Firefox is installed, different browsers I have tried with Debian all freeze in exactly the same way.

I just replaced the flash plug-in for 11.4 64 bit and FF4 is working fine now

Just found this Lizard howto for flash player 64 bit install

You just need to download the flash player 11 64bit and follow these the steps these steps.

Non Free

Dear readers, we sometimes have to use non-free software. This post will learn you how to get the latest flash player supporting natively your favorite openSUSE Linux 64 bits distribution.

Keep in mind that it is preview software, actually pre-release code quality, and with it you will not receive any security updates. Keep an eyes on it, and refresh it manually if newer version are published

So why to try that software ? My answer is simple : it’s a native 64bits plug-in. So it’s interaction with your native 64bits browser, should give you a better stability. My experience using it in the last 4 months is pretty good, no Firefox crash due to flash. (Several pro week or day with the 32bits 10.0 version)
Get ready
Remove any installed 32bits packages

First things to do, remove all actual 32bits flash installed.

zypper rm flash-player pullin-flash-player

Get the lastest Flash square preview

Go the main project page Square
Read the informations, and the Adobe License you implicitly accept by using this software.
Then Download the tar.gz

cd /tmp
wget http://download.macromedia.com/pub/labs/flashplayer10/flashplayer11 (current version).tar.gz

Uncompress & Install

tar -xvzf flashplayer11 "whatever the current version is".tar.gz
sudo chown root:root libflashplayer.so
sudo cp libflashplayer.so /usr/lib64/browser-plugins/libflashplayer.so

Test

Close any firefox or konqueror running, and restart them
under firefox, launch the about:plugins uri

and you should see

Shockwave Flash
File: libflashplayer.so
Version:
Shockwave Flash 10.3 d162

Have a nice surfing session, if you like flash website .
