Richard I use the HP DVD -r 16X all the time and successfully burn them
with K3B and Brasco.

unfortunately, disk burners are a machine…and, machines get out of
calibration or wear out, or just stop working, eventually…
one burner may last five years, the next five months…
if you have a burner which cannot make usable disks and it is in
warranty TAKE IT BACK…
i have read that some people believe you should never use your burner
as a reader because that VERY quickly causes the burning function to
get enough out of alignment that is just stops being able to make
readable copies…
read around…google is full of horror stories…
