SDB:NVIDIA drivers - openSUSE says
The 1-click install repository links for the “Easy Way” and “Repository Way” will be populated after the mid-July-2010 release of openSUSE-11.3."
Well 11.3 is of course out now, so anyone know where the links are? I know I could do it the ‘Hard Way’ and I’ve done it that way many times in the past. But these days I’m older and lazier and prefer the ‘Easy Way’.

Hi
I would imagine it’s waiting for the Nvidia folk to build them which
they are suppose to be looking at next week…

Thanks. I’ll go the Hard Way then.
You could try adding this repo in YAST - worked for me today - I’d like to thank the original person who posted this information but I cannot find it. I would also thank Yareg if indeed he is a he (or a she)!

Hi
That repository is probably going to be removed as it is in breach of
the openSUSE Build Service rules.
I would recommend waiting for the Nvidia folks else do it the hard way
as there may be other items added to the build for 11.3 from Nvidia.

… and the real one is now available via YAST. I am off to play with YAST now. Thanks to everyone involved.
Opened YAST, added the nVidia repo, went to S/W management and the packages were already selected. Clicked install, waited, rebooted and now lspci says I’m using driver ‘nvidia’.
No muss, no fuss, no nomodeset. Just worked.
(Even though it’s not the absolute latest…)
Where can i found the nVidia repo¿
In YAST, select Repositories, Add, Community Repos, NVidia. done.

I just added the NVIDIA repository, and the correct driver was picked up and installed automatically. After the install, X would not start; I was dropped back to the text-mode login prompt. I tried rebooting, but that didn’t help. I tried adding “nomodeset brokenmodules=nouveau” to the boot command line and that didn’t help. NO_KMS_IN_INITRD was already set to “yes” in the sysconfig editor.

Running Xorg -configure gives me “This server has an ABI version of 7.0 that is not supported by this NVIDIA driver.”
I don’t know the answer to this
Perhaps you should mention what graphics device this is exactly

GeForce FX Go5200. It worked fine under 11.2 with the NVIDIA driver.

That’s pretty much what I’ve tried, other than installing the driver the “hard way”. It seems unlikely that the “hard way” driver would have different ABI version.
I see you added more than ‘nomodeset’
I don’t know if that will make any difference.
The hard way would let you try the very latest drivers or even Beta versions.
You must remove the repo one first.
