11.3 MS6 KDE Live CD problem

Downloaded KDE-Live CD (openSUSE-KDE-Live CD-x86_64-Build0577-
Media.iso) today. Burned CD with K3B on 11.2 system.

Could not find MD5sum to compare against in Factory repo. Tried
booting CD got to 99% complete in loading Linux (Isolinux) and it
hung. Restarted and tried check media get following error:
Isolinux disk error 04, AX=4200 drive FE.

What does this error mean? Where do i get md5sum for Live CD?

Will try single user install tomorrow. See what happens. System is
same as 11.2 described in signature

Thanks for any help.

Hi
You need to look in the distribution not factory directory.

Milestone5 had installation problems, and Milestone6 (originally intended for 22-Apr release) was delayed until 29-April new predicted release date. Last I looked here Software.openSUSE.org milestone5 had been removed, but milestone6 not yet added.

Because milestone6 was delayed, has it been determined for certain if build 0577 will be the M6 release ? Given they had problems with M5 and then M6, it may be best to wait until one is certain they have the exact M6 build.

Build 577 has two issues (one with the KDE x64 image, and a completely different one with the NET x64 install image); the KDE x64 image won’t boot (errors in /dev/loop0), and the NET x64 (mini) install image complains of a bad SHA1 hash (however, an install in insecure mode will still work; I’m posting from it right now). The KDE 32-bit image is fine.

I just checked the openSUSE website, and M6 is now present: Software.openSUSE.org - development version

… and yes, it turns out version 0577 is the M6 version for all 11.3 M6 DVD and CDs (Gnome, KDE and net install).

I can also confirm the KDE 32-bit image being fine.

I downloaded and burned the 32-bit build 577 (milestone6 of 11.3) liveCD KDE version.

I then used it to successfully boot to a 32-bit AMD Athlon-2800 w/2GB (Asus A7N8X Deluxe motherboard) w/ PCI nVidia GeForce 8400GS graphics.

It booted ok to the 32-bit liveCD. Checking the /var/log/Xorg.0.log file indicated the Noveau graphic driver was used. There was no /etc/X11/xorg.conf file. Sound worked. Wired internet worked. As anticipated, special desktop effects with the Noveau driver did not work on this hardware.

I have not tried the 1.3 MS6 64-bit KDE liveCD yet … I have not read yet of anyone succeeding with it.

I am typing this from a 64-bit PC, using the openSUSE-11.3 Milestone-6 build-0577 KDE4 liveCD. It works on this PC ! Sound works. Internet works. PC is using the Noveau graphic driver. As expected, special desktop effects does not work with Noveau driver.

This PC is a 64-bit Intel Core i7 920 w/6GB (Asus P6T Deluxe V2 motherboard) w/ PCI-e nVidia GeForce GTX260 graphics.

As noted, the 64-bit liveCD works well on this hardware.

The 64-bit liveCD problems that some are having may be hardware specific ? Or did those users do the proper md5sum check and burn at the slowest speed possible to a high quality +R or-R CD ?

Thanks for posting this link, I’ll try it this weekend after its
available for a few days. I downloaded the above mentioned KDE-Live
CD from http://download.opensuse.org/factory/iso/ it was dated 4/28.

Just finished downloading DVD, will see what happens.

Thanks for your input!
