[11.3] I tell it to shutdown, but it then reboots all by itself

openSUSE 11.3

I installed 11.3 a few days ago, and after some minor tweaking it’s been running fine. At the end of each day I have been shutting the machine down.

But today, when I came to shut the machine down, it went through the normal shutdown sequence, but then, instead of powering off, it rebooted.

I have tried shutting down by clicking on the system tray icon, and I have tried with shutdown -h now, but it keeps rebooting!

What has happened? How do I turn it off?

switch to text mode, issue “halt”. If it puts the flash screen, press ESC
to get the verbose display instead, and notice what messages pass by,
perhaps there is an error.
