11.3 Hard Crash. I'm out of tricks. help?

My box is described here:
Show Box

Fresh install of 11.3 straight from the stable repos.

With fair frequency the machine locks hard. Needs a power cycle.
I often do, but may not see this in var/log/messages.

the base install has only KDE4.41.
it Originally came up with Vesa drivers.
I installed radeon.
started seeing the crash.
I installed FGLRX 8.77 (amazingly, without a hitch)
no impact.
I reinstalled Firefox, Konqueror, and Chrome.
I removed Flash.
I installed the last 3 flash versions. one at a time.

I unplugged Everything USB. I removed the USB Stack.
And the Bluez stack.

I updated Xorg.
I reinstalled Mesa.
I reinstalled Radeon.

Got a pile of complaints about EDID because I use a CRT.

At the moment, it’s setup like I’d like it to be.

And it makes holes in the ground about 4 times a day.

Any Ideas?

So the problem sounds like the ATI driver, but you seem unable to get rid of it. Here is someone else that upgraded everything, uses ATI and seemed to have success.

Mesa 7.9 from Xorg repo

the repository he used is here and must be added without the quotes:

http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/X11:/XOrg/openSUSE_11.3/

Short of a reinstall and not loading the ATI driver, I am not sure what else to do. I would make sure I really did an uninstall of the ATI driver, before I did anything else.

Thank You,

Yes it sounds like you ATI drivers and here is a post where they got it to work. ATI Radeon HD 4670 Graphic Driver
