I have downloaded the latest 11.3 DVD iso to start using 11.3 (I’ve used openSuSE since 7.2!)
While I have basically managed to install 11.3 and use it I have been having some glitches particularly in relation to installing other software.
So I’ve been trying to track down what I’d got wrong.
In my investigation (though it may not be the source of my problem) I found that the DVD .iso image md5 did not match that in the .md5 file.
My initial reaction was that I had a corrupted down load and/or corruptions burning the DVD. However, I have tried downloading the DVD .iso (and .md5 file) from 4 different mirrors and get the same results. Additionally, performing the System Media check from the burnt DVD always gives a fail.
Specifically:
Running md5sum on the downloaded .iso file always gives:
36ae1cc9062f61e63581e77ce2e9cdc0 openSUSE-11.3-DVD-i586.iso
The contents of the .md5 file are:
1a1da28c84e3cdad750d5cfa21c4fd17 openSUSE-11.3-DVD-i586.iso
Finally (though maybe not relevant) the openSuSE download page suggests that the DVD image size is 4.7GB while the actuall downloaded file size (as also shown on the mirror site) is 4.0GB
Whatever you are using for your download sounds like it cannot handle
files larger than 4 GB. This happens a lot; for example, IE has this
issue as I recall (or at least had recently) and some download managers
still do. Use something else, and also be sure your filesystem can handle
files > 4 GB. The md5sum on the site is definitely correct.
Good luck.

Actually the image wants to say that the .iso is fitting on a 4.7GB DVD. It’s a bit mistakable.
Will give bittorrent a try. Though am downloading using Firefox under suse 11.1 to an ext3 partition so would not have thought there should be a problem.
Also, I note that gropiuskalle (Wise Penguin) indicates that the 4.7GB mentioned on the download page is a mistake being the DVD capacity not the actual file size - all download mirrors give the file size as 4.0G (4346398720 bytes) which is the size of the downloaded file I get.
