11.2 Installs - W7 Doesn't !

The point of this is just to say. Yet again 11.2 is a dream install. Newish build on AMD _64 5600 with 9800GT Nvidia. This was for a friend today. I was supposed to install Win7 first but after 2hrs I decided to leave it and do 11.2 first.
Straight forward 2 HD setup, one dedicated to Win the other to openSUSE with grub on the MBR of the SUSE HD. Manual partitioning done. Added in some basic devel stuff: gcc, make…etc…
Half an hour later all done. Ran the updates. Added the nvidia repo and opened software management and the driver was already checked for install, let it rip, log out and in - magic, all working.
Setup the kde3 stuff for 1.4 amarok (iPOD user)
Brought in the kde stable repos - OK

So, I’m puzzled at all these posts about nvidia not working, blah, blah…
it just works!! More than can be said for Windows which froze just after the Loading Windows section just before the main installer section. I did eventually get to where it has evaluated the partitions but it refused to go any further, the whole thing was like treacle in a fridge.

Another + for the best OS out there 11.2

Windows: Are we seeing the tables turn on all those “Windows just works comments”!

Don’t tell Windo$ guys about this. After seeing your Avtar, they might blame you for “pissing” on the Win7 CD lol! rotfl!

Yeah, I changed that av recently. I was feeling kinda tetchy! As far as I’m concerned win is down the toilet.

A friend of mine used to remove the “Designed for Windows” stickers from the PCs and stick them in the closet of his toilet

I stick mine on the bin in my office

My toilet is a multiboot: win95, win98, win2000, XP, Vista and now Win7. A slight decrease of performance since flushing the latest media, but it’s the one device I don’t have the blue screens on.

I got this idea from someone else.

Yes, agree with you all guys.
I recently install W7 for one of my friend on his laptop, before i was using that laptop with 11.1, as he is not much familiar with computer, so i installed W7 for him(pirated copy).
And now the fun begin for him, wireless card some time down, some time slow, some time not detecting networks(has to restart laptop).
While in 11.1 i never face this wireless card issue on this laptop.
So i told him “Enjoy Windozzzzzzzzzz”.

Anyway…the reputation you guys give to windozz is out standing. lol!

11.2 was my savior, before that I had to run my laptop in failsafe mode. It was just missing something without the cool graphics. Since I put 11.2 on laptop I haven’t booted up windows 7 on my laptop once.

beautiful…i immmediately posted it to facebook…

I upgraded vista to windows 7 on a laptop that took 3 hours to complete. It has some compatibilty issue with the built-in webcam. On the same laptop openSUSE installed in 30 minutes and just works.
The user says in win 7 it does not hibernate, I have not look into it. She is now booting into openSUSE for reasons of webcam support, hibernate, and she does not have to worry for a virus because the internet provider free antivirus for subscribers presently not win 7 compatible and the last is openSUSE 11.2 is quicker.

As far as i am concerned i do not think MS will get it right from her on in. the last three os changes have been a nightmare, i will continue to change my customers over to SUSE. i had no problems with 11.2 and i will never go back to the os of doom.(windows)

Curiosity killed the cat. So I decided to install W7 and see how it really was. The installation process was smooth. The system is now up and running. Everything is just working.
I’m using it to type this reply right now. All I’d like to say is that win7 is an improvement over previous Windoze versions. It’s loads better than Vista and it’s not bloated (though all Linux distros still beat it hollow in that matter). From task manager, I see that a total of 697 MB RAM out of 1.5 GB is being used with IE (with a file downloading) running and task manager running. Another improvement.

Still, I don’t like it as much as Linux, particularly due to it being proprietary and non-0SS software and all that. In functionality, though, you can’t deny that it’s better than other Windozes. And Linux is quite on par with it, with the exception of some cases, in which comparing Linux to Win7 is like comparing a Ferrari with a supercharged V12 engine to a 2005 model Honda civic.

So, any of you who’re thinking like me?

You mean you don’t even have OS/2 ?

Weird.

Any time things appear to be going better, you have overlooked
something.
