Firstly, apologies if this is in the wrong section. openSUSE 11.2 hangs when I try to hibernate at about the 5% mark. Can I force the splash screen to be verbose (like bootup) when hibernating so I can help diagnose the problem?
This didn’t happen under 11.1, and was a clean install not an upgrade.
I think if you open a terminal, then log in as root, you can type (w/o quotes) “init3”. This will drop you to a run-level without X running, then you can type “pm-hibernate” and it should hibernate. when you wake it up, type “init5” as a root user, and you should be back to X.
Thanks for your swift reply bertmanphx.
When I tried what you suggested, “pm-hibernate” used the splash screen when hibernating so I’m still none the wiser as to why my system hangs. Is there a way to force pm-hibernate to display text only, or to boot the machine up in text only mode?
