11.2: first distro to use my swap space

I noticed today that my upgraded 11.2 laptop is using the swap space. I have 4 GB of RAM… I see that Xorg is using 1.1 GB - that sounds REALLY high, not?

I can give a listing of all that’s running, but the point is: I’m not running anything different than I was on 11.1 two weeks ago and it NEVER dipped into my swap space.

I have observed usage of swap in opensuse 11.1, even without tasks that would consume much memory. Mostly occurred when I had multiple windows open and untouched for several days.

Quite intelligent. I don’t see anything wrong with that type of swapping.

1.1GB on Xorg is ballistic, off the scale, rabid dog…crazy.

Post a screen of top running in a terminal.

What graphics device and what have you done with drivers for it?

It’s the laptop that’s in my tagline:

Intel 1.73GHz Core 2 Duo 4 GB RAM Radeon HD 2600 openSUSE 11.2 (64) KDE 4.3.1.

I’m running the ATI flgrx driver (version 9.11).

Here is top (ordered by RAM):

I noticed the swapping hogging my drive after the kids used the laptop for some website that is heavy flash-based. Could that be related?

Can you post the result of this:

zypper lr -d

Here are the results:
