I got 11.1 downloaded yesterday in 90 mins (using Metalink), checked the md5sum and burned using K3b.
Then I tried it in my systems just to see if they would start the install.
I have basicaly two desktops:
On a HP Pavilion t490.nl everything went as expected until the region/time screen where I aborted being satisfied. So far for the check if the DVD is OK.
On a HP Pavilion s3160.nl I get the boot menu, select Install, see the kernel loading, then the screen becomes black (all normal until here). It stays black an abnormal amount of time (at least twice the time compared o the system above) and then starts booting again (the blue HP screen).
Same happens when trying the Repair entry of the boot menu.
The system is a openSUSE 10.3 only, so it is not afraid of openSUSE . Earlier this year I did the same “will it boot from the DVD” test with 11.0 without problem.
Anybody having any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.
I should have thought about the several boot options available. I used them before, but on old/small systems. I was so embarrassed by the fact that it did not work on my newest system, that I did not think about it.
I first tried VESA to no avail.
I then tried text to no avail. In both cases shortly after “Booting processor 1” (cite from what I remember to have seen) a black screen > HP boot screen.
Then “save settings”: now it came through! Run it until the set time zone with the world map.
Again, I should have thought about it earlier.
I hope this problem will not be caried over to a real install of 11.1
