11.2 CD Labels

Hey folks,
I just put together some CD labels for 11.2 since there haven’t been any new ones in a while.

You can find them here:
CD and DVD - openSUSE

I’m curious as to your feedback… Do you like/dislike? Why/why not?

I like them! Too bad I’ve got no hardware to print it in full color right on the DVD.

Thanks!

Perhaps those printable labels you can buy for CDs would work… I’ve had no problems with them before, but you do have to center them correctly on the CD.(if you don’t, the disc unbalances and that’s when drives have trouble reading them)

Super Artwork. Has anyone tried printing them in mono on a lightscribe disc?

I hadn’t thought of that- while I do have lightscribe discs.

It would probably still look good- see the attached- I dropped the saturation to 0% and upped the brightness a touch.

A good trick for LS discs is to burn the same label image twice- it enhances the contrast (but edges may get a bit fuzzy).

Vintage PC,
It’s fantastic. If I able to download the openSUSE 11.2, I will certainly use it.
I have a lightscribe here but haven’t tried it. Maybe it’s about time to search around on how to use the lightscribe in linux. I think even printing in mono your work will still be pretty because the tone variations were neatly done.

Thanks- glad to hear you like it- I put a lot of work in to getting the layout to balance nicely. If the labels are very well received, I will maintain them for future versions as well.

(There is Lightscribe software for Linux, called “4L” or something like that, as well as a bunch of base packages. I think they were published by LaCie.)

Very nice indeed, especially the fact you inclmude the content in the
design, rather than just mension in text.

Very Nice.

Any time things appear to be going better, you have overlooked
something.

I added the icons for two reasons

  • to spice up the CD cover
  • To make it easy to discern what the CD is at a glance (for those of us that may burn multiple versions).

My little contribution to make openSUSE even better than it already is…

Can’t wait to put the labels on the CD. I really like them;)

Here’s what I use -

…although these new ones look very nice

That looks good on the LS disc. too.

Only a few more days now

lol, I lightscribed my 11.2 DVDs and printed the box covers today, one for 32bit and one for 64bit.

All ready to write the data once 11.2 is released

The jpg you posted is openSUSE-11 with nothing after the 11. But the light scribe one comes from a different jpeg template ? as it has 11.1.

Yeah, sorry about that! I used the wrong template :.

I’ve just finished updating them and I’ll put them onto my server now…

OK, here you go…

I normally just crop out the version number with GIMP and put a new one in, then I can use just one template. I just wrote these 2 images today and they turn out very nice.

Mine was completely done in Inkscape so it is even easier to edit

What font did you use for “OpenSUSE”?

No idea, I didn’t create that part I just scanned it in, but I have seen those fonts in the past and also used them so I know they are available.

Found it.

It’s called fifth-leg and I installed it through yast, search for fifth-leg.

It seems they changed it though, the nice rounded ends of the S are no longer there :frowning:

Yeah- I was trying to use the same for my labels- wondering what it was called…

but then I found Neopol, which I kinda like better…
