Just out of interest, why do you want to install XGL? It is no longer maintained and had been removed from the X server (see the Wikipedia entry).
If you want to use compiz (I’m assuming that’s why you want XGL), you just need to make sure your graphics card is properly installed and 3D acceleration is actviated, then eneable compiz from the menu.
You likely do not need XGL
Compiz works in kde4 without any additional install other than your 3D video drivers.
Look for this section in the Desktop Config as well as the Main desktop effects

thanks for your answers.
how can I access to this window?
I noticed I have the graphic card well recognised, and I have the 3D acceleration enabled.

in this page : Compiz Fusion - openSUSE, as a pre-requisite, there is a command to enter (grep composite (…), and I obtain that composite is DISABLED!

in the window system configuration, I can’t enable the desktop effects: the computer tells me Xcomposite and Xdamage aren’t present.
do you know how to install it?
XGL seems to be out-of-date.
so this thread has no more reason to continue.
