Which model laptop?
Reference your mixer, in case your volume controls are not linear, try moving them up to 95% for the test (you can move them back down to a lower level to reduce distortion after you establish you have sound). I note this:
Card hw:0 ‘Intel’/‘HDA Intel at 0xd2400000 irq 22’
Mixer name : ‘Conexant CX20549 (Venice)’
Simple mixer control ‘Master’,0
Front Left: Playback 32 74%] -16.50dB] [on]
Front Right: Playback 32 74%] -16.50dB] [on]
Simple mixer control ‘PCM’,0
Front Left: Playback 29 67%] [13.50dB] [on]
Front Right: Playback 29 67%] [13.50dB] [on]When testing your audio, please copy and paste the following speaker test into a gnome terminal or kde konsole: speaker-test -c2 -l5 -twavyou should hear a ladies voice saying ‘FRONT LEFT’,‘FRONT RIGHT’ five times. Do you hear that?
Please also copy and paste the following to a gnome terminal or kde konsole one line at a time and post here the output:rpm -qa | grep alsa
rpm -qa | grep pulse
rpm -q libasound2
uname -a
cat /etc/modprobe.d/sound
First of all, thanks for your quick answer and sorry for my bad English…
As strange it could be, sound is working now :shame:
I tried so many different setting that I really don’t know which one has (almost) solve my issue.
Now I can hear noise !! Yes I can’t say sound because of the quality.
The sound is very saturated, and even if I change the volume in Kmix it doesn’t change anything.
For information, my laptop is a Toshiba satellite P100-432.
When I try This
speaker-test -c2 -l5 -twav
I have a error message who say:ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:1008:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open slave
Playback open error: -16,Périphérique ou ressource occupé.
Yesterday It was the opposite, the speaker test was working but no sound when playing music on Amarok or on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=(http://www.youtube.com)
I have no time this evening to tryout all your suggestions but as soon as i can i’ll do it.
Tomorrow I’ll post the results of the test you told me to try.
Marco
OK, … I am waiting for the results of the script and commands I recommended you run.
I recommend you take paper notes when you change the configuration of your computer, so that you can figure out what you do in order to make something work.
Good luck.
Hello,
so, I ran the script and, the speaker test is now working.
The sound is working but I’ve always the saturated feeling but anyway is better than nothing.
Hope you can help me to solve this
Thanks

OK, if sound is working, then go to YAST > Hardware > Sound > Other > Volume and move the volume controls (PCM/master) to the right quite far (to increase volume). Then close YaST. The start your mixer and lower the volume settings in the mixer for PCM and master volume in the mixer.
Ok, I did it and the sound is better not as well as is was on Windows but it’s ok
Thanks a lot for your help
Marco
