11.1 on 11 dilema..

Can someone please clear up what should I do in case I want 11.1 instead of 11, but I would like to remove everything I had on 11 so far. So that no files, nothing, nothing, nothing is left from 11, no files, docs…

Please help I burned my 11.1  And can’t wait to install it.

That’s not too articulate… is there another language you prefer to use?
If I understand you, you’d like to delete all files in your OpenSuse 11.0 install and install OpenSuse 11.1 ?

If yes, then when it comes to installing choose manual partitioning and overwrite your existing / and /home partitions.
Hope that helps.

Just fire up 11.1 and tell it to use the whole disk.

That’s assuming you only have openSUSE on the disk.
Otherwise just format the / and /home

Allright, I am sorry I wasn’t that clear on it.

I have Windows (unfortunately) so it has to stay. What I would like to do, is have 11.1 totally new without any files I had on 11. English language.

Hence I can not use whole disk. But I could either overwrite partitions on manual installation, or perhaps someone could help me format / and /home.

btw… I can see files from windows on Linux, cause partitions are mounted. And I would like it to stay that way.

So what do you suggest, and how shall I proceed on doing it?
Perhaps a link to guide or smth would really helpfull.

The 11.1 installer will probably offer to overwrite / but retain /home. Just override it and say format /home also.

Those are great infos, but could you tell me how to format /home please. I am not quite sure about that?

I would not reformat your /home partition. One of the advantages of having a separate partition for /home is you can upgrade your OS without having to dump all your documents, data, and settings. Unless you ABSOLUTELY need to have a new filesystem for /home, there’s really no need to ever reformat it.

But I want to reformat it. And I know why is /home separate, but I want cean install. Over time, I downloaded a lot of stuff I don’t use and its much easier if I just format it.

But if someone would help me how to do that, it would be more than appriciated.

If you really want to destroy everything, just tell the partitioner to format
the partitions used for / and /home. This will require you to edit the default
settings as it assumes you want to save /home.
