11.1 no display

Hi All,

I have a Dell Laptop Inspiron 9300, ATI X300, Intel Pentium M 750 / 1.86 GHz.

I install OpenSuse 11.1 but when it reboot to start OS I get a blank screen. I believe the desktop is up and running but no display. I believe this is when I am suppose to configure the display configuration. I have this same problem on my MacBook too.

I selected KDE 3.5 for the desktop.

11.0 is working fine.

So you’re at the final step of th install, the hardware config?
Are you able to access another one of the TTYs (Ctrl+Al+F1 through to F4).
If so you might be able to run sax2 -r from there to configure the display.

I will try. I do not remember but I was able to use sax2 -r. I could not get a display to work, it stays black. I will try again.

Try the following

Pause the boot by moving the down arrow, then back up to the default boot. But now press backspace, it should delete any text where you can see VGA=…etc
Remove all text and now type just the number:
3
and hit enter

at the login type your user name and then password
now type:
su
then the root password

now type this:
sax2 -r -m 0=vesa
(N.B. the 0 is a zero not a letter)

now reboot: type: reboot
if you don’t get a gui login
login as user at cli and try this at the cli
startx

Thanks for the help you two. What I end up doing is install 11.0 upgrade to 11.1. I had some issue so I reinstall with reformat.

I am now up and running.

OS: Linux 2.6.27.25-0.1-pae i686
System: openSUSE 11.1 (i586)
KDE: 3.5.10 “release 21.9”
