I am confused by all the packages containing “networkmanager” in their name. Which ones should be installed, which ones should not be? Knetworkmanager? Can I use the KDE3 networkmanager with KDE4 on 11.1?
After a fresh 11.1 install with KDE4, the wireless and the networkmanager worked after disabling IPv6. However, the connection to the wirless sometimes failed, so I foolishly played around by adding knetworkmanager packages. Now the networkmanager does not work at all anymore, i.e. the progress bar goes to 100% and then the grey globe for disconnected is displayed.
Switching to ifup using YaST2 gives me a flawless working wireless network, but since I am often on the move with my laptop, this is somewhat uncomfortable and I would prefer a point-and-click-and-fill-in-forms method, like the networkmanager.
YaST2 identifies my network card as (Intel) “PRO/Wireless 5300 AGN [Shiloh]”. Thanks for any advice.
