11.1 is out: Is this feature now available

Total or root disk encryption? Being a laptop user this feature is very important to me. I used to use Suse but strayed away once a few of the other big players showed me the awesomeness that is total disk encryption.

I looked all over the net and found hints that it was going to be available but nothing concrete.

I also have heard that it can cause problems with things like hibernation and standby. But I think the choice should still be there as I don’t use these features anyway.

Read this: Encrypted Root File System - openSUSE

so, is that a no? I have seen that link before, its not supported, and it is difficult to figure out.

Oh well, guess I am going to have to wait till 11.2

sigh

That paper looks like a ‘Yes’ to me, it’s encrypting swap, / and /home, rather than just one area. Only /boot is left out for obvious reasons.

In the 11.1 installation it has ‘Crypt Files’ in the partitioner, so support is intended. However, like the HOWTO explains, you’ll have to first install a non-encrypted root filesystem, then copy it into encrypted form first.

If you expect it ‘just to work’ with a few mouse clicks, then it appears the answer is no.
