11.1 Install Issues - Password?

I’m trying to load OpenSUSE i686 KDE Live CD, (I assume there is no full DVD install of this?) After choosing LiveInstall from the menu, i wait a few mins until i get a command prompt:

"Master Resource Control: runlevel 5 has been Skipped services in runlevel 5:

linux login: _"

Why am i asked for login? I obviously have no account setup and it doesn’t matter what i type the login is always “incorrect” I just wanted to try the LiveInstall on my laptop. (Could it be the fingerprint scanner being found or something?)

Anyone with any idea of what’s going on, after waiting for the countdown to complete it feels like a let down… :frowning: All ideas and suggestions welcome!

some hardware/video combination gives this it seems.
do the following:


at prompt login as root
then switch to runlevel 1
#init 1
when you get back to prompt enter following to get to runlevel 5
#init 5
it will gets you to liveKDE session

Thanks for the reply, I unfortunately did not get to try your suggested fix. I tried the i686-KDE-Live CD on another desktop PC and it installed without the aforementioned issue.

I have downloaded the x86-x64 LiveCD and InstallDVD The x86-x64 KDE-Live CD has loaded on my newer notebook without asking for a password, so the issue seems specific to the i686 LiveCD.

Can i ask what is the difference between installing the LiveCD and the DVD Installation disc? What is the LiveCD missing? I’m used to Kubuntu having a LiveDVD.

The Live CD is pretty much a copy of a reasonable install, you get much fewer choices, so you can’t tailor the software packages for instance. They’re intended for ppl to try out Linux, and then have a convenient method to install onto hard disk, with possibly no previous experience of Linux.

The DVD and Net installs, use the full Installer and have maximum flexibility. There’s far more control for the expert installer. Also you need to do these, if you wish to avoid certain driver modules, and use alternatives eg) avoid pata_pdc202xx_old and use pdc202xx_old instead.
