I was happy with my 11.0 version of SuSE. After the update to 11.1 SuSE
deleted all my multimedia programs: mplayer, VLC, Reaplayer, all codecs
and XMMS. Even the virtualbox.
Anybody with similar problems, I hate to reinstall everything.

Simply add packman to your repository list (with OSS, Non-OSS and
Update). There is guidance here for that. ‘Repositories/11.1 -
openSUSE-Community’ (http://opensuse-community.org/Repositories/11.1)
ONLY add packman, oss, non-oss, and update. No others. None. (You can
add others ONLY when you understand the risks, and how to fix any
problems that may arise).
Once those are setup, go to YaST > Software > Software Management and
select the apps you wish to install. Its very easy and simple to do.
I’ll try that, the other problem I have is Yast2 crash every time when
runs to add programs or load the repos, I saw other post in the forum
with same problems with version 11.1
Even in root, yast2 crash also.
Big mistake to upgrade man. I’ll continue around here for possible
solutions.

option?
I have 11.1 running on two PCs. I did a clean install. No crashes. It
works great.
Well I click on update. Then I got a message saying following changes
made to the system, I did check all of them, then after the update all
multimedia programs gone. Other problems that I resolved were: compiz
and sound.
I reinstalled compiz, but now emerald is not working all window frames
gone.
I guess clean option is not a problem, but update may be causing
conflicts with old and new programs.
I’m using KDE 3.5.10 release 21.11

install.
Having said that, everytime I do, someone with a completely different
configuration will chime in and state an “update” worked for them and
has always worked for them.
And thats fine, but IMHO if you are seeing these problems, and myself
and others that I know who did clean installs are not, then you should
do a clean install.
