Does anyone know when the Beta finally hits the mirrors? Its 18 Sep today and the Roadmap shows its release for today.

Looks like they are having issues creating an installable image so
Beta1 is scrubbed for today’s release. Christoph will be giving an
update on the mailing list later today with where they are with this
issue.
I’ll be watching Re: [opensuse-factory] Status openSUSE distribution on the mailing lists – hit previous to see the entire thread.

Any News? Its seemes calm all around. Whats going on with the release.

Pretty much same as yesterday so far. Most likely Christoph will post
to the ML today with an updated status though.
I’m just getting used to OS11 – do we really need an upgrade?

Not for 2 years if you don’t want.
Downloading now via Bit Torrent.
I was wondering why my Factory update wasn’t producing anything new:
Please also note, we have disabled syncing of
Index of /distribution/SL-OSS-factory – this repo is
outdated and deprecated now.As we are building openSUSE in the Build Service now, please use
Index of /repositories/openSUSE:/Factory/standard for
the now. Adrian is working on introducing a new structure on
download.openSUSE.org for factory etc.
Change your Factory repro in Yast;)
that is if yast even works…
If you can’t get that running using Smart, zypper, or manually downloading yast, I suggest you get the DVD via torrent @ Software.openSUSE.org and do a clean Beta1 install.
How about us poor slobs that don’t have dvd writers
Is there ever gonna be a live cd or is there some way to use an iso image from a hard drive???
Oh I did manage to update from repo but it wasn’t easy. all the repos that yast suggested
from community repos seemed to be dead finally let one click install add one. updated to
11.1 beta 1. then checked again and yast wanted to downgrade most of my installation
Im doing that now. let ya know
oops, i forgot you mentioned smart… i’ll install it now.
i’ve been having a lot of fun learning to use zypper via command line.
ok, i installed smart. is there a way to view packages that aren’t installed?
also, is it possible to view packages by the repository they are in?
I try fresh install and get error when it reach grub installation .
Error 6: Mismatched or corrupt version of stage1/stage2
what should I do?
Here’s what I would do:
Take any good openSUSE install CD/DVD and copy /boot/grub stage1, stage2. etc. (there’s a number of them), to the same on the install. You could do that with a LiveCD.
See if it will boot:)
PS: I did a zypper dup & afterwards had to boot it with a 10.2 DVD and rewrite the bootloader;)
You haven’t clicked around on it enough…
I have something running in root just now & can’t open it right now
You need to get to view > channels & add the repo, or turn it on – you will need “Factory Standard” to get to Beta1.
refresh
when it comes back fresh, click on “view” and there will be options that show only those rpms for update, etc.
One of those Icons on the toolbar is for system upgrade;)
get the repos right
refresh
I’d update all the yast rpms 1st if you are still with Alpha2
You may still have to start Yast in a terminal untill you upgrade.
Good luck.
Set this up as your only “active” Yast repro: Index of /repositories/openSUSE:/Factory/standard
In a terminal as root:
zypper ref
that repro should show as the only refresh
then
zypper dup
Worked for me;) (Although, afterwards had to boot it with a 10.2 DVD and rewrite the bootloader.)
I’d do that just before you go to bed as the servers are loaded and it could take a while.
I got on it early and even then it took quite a while.
Good luck.
i’m already at beta 1.
with smart the fact that i have to add repos to be able to view them is totally lame & a deal breaker for me. it should be able to do that automatically.
i still have yet to find a package manager that is as good as synaptic.
on the upside of things, after an update yast partially works again. the icons are back but unfortunately it now starts with the gtk frontend instead of the qt frontend in kde4. it is still totally broken functionality-wise though as none of the modules load.
i’m using smart 1.1 & just tried to refresh my repos with it and i got this:
Traceback (most recent call last):
File “/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/smart/fetcher.py”, line 1181, in fetch

from test.test_support import catch_warning
ImportError: No module named test.test_support
then i ran zypper ref & it spit this out:

anyone else seeing this? i think it may be related to yast’s current state of chaos.
Trying to run the beta in virtualbox and having no luck. When I try to install, I get to the screen where you select “hard drive” or “installation” etc. Selecting “installation” starts the process but immediately reboots the virtual machine and brings me back to the same spot.
Anyone got this going in vbox?
