Hello,
I’ve recently installed 11.1 on a dual opteron workstation.
YaST2 reports neither the CPU or the OS not being able to do full virtualization.
My questions are:
Is x86_64 kernel XEN not able to do full virt ?
I think the following CPU is able to do full virt,
maybe I’m wrong ?
thanks for your comments.

Hi & welcome!
Check to see if you haven’t missed switching on a virtualization option in the BIOS. By default it’s usually disabled.
If there is no option… chances are you motherboard does not support it?

I cant´t see the “svm” flag in your cpuinfo output below. That is needed to do full virtualization.
I think the Opteron 2212 should have this feature so probably it is a BIOS issue as the previous poster suggested.
Hello,
Sure the flag svn isn’t there, but the corresponding BIOS parameter is ‘enabled’.
On the same hardware, I have SLED10-SP2 installed with a non xen kernel,
and there is the ‘svm’ flag.
Is this an evidence that OpenSUSE 11.1 x86_64 kernel doesn’t properly detect virtualization flags for this Opteron CPU ?
Should I file a bug for this ?

I have the exact same issue, I am very new to Linux but coming from a Windows Vista x64 install on this system where full Visualization was supported on my system I am a bit stumped as to why my open SUSE 11.1 x64 install doesn’t.
My system is an AMD 9850 and my motherboard was purchased at the same time and fully supports Visualization, so I think this has more to do with incorrect detecting then an actual hardware fault.
Does anyone know how I might go about resolving it, or is it possible a flaw in the current kernel that wasn’t there before? As I have heard of people who ran open SUSE 10.2 and had no issues until they upgraded to 11.1.

I’m having a similar instance of that very same problem. Is there something I’m doing incorrectly.
