11.0 & FireFox 3 right-click menu issues

Seems to be yet another “broken after the update” issue

I use the right-click menu to open tabs in Firefox a LOT… like probably hundreds of times a day, and it’s gotten so that it’s really, really flakey -
At least half the time if not more, when I right-click on a link, instead of getting the menu, FF will just seemingly randomly select a menu option and go with it.
Sometimes I get a new tab, sometimes it opens up an email window, sometimes it opens the link in a new window, etc etc.
It’s not unusual at all for me to have to right-click on something a half dozen times before I get my new tab, and then have to go back to close all the garbage it fired up during the attempt.
This was definitely not something it was doing before the update - anybody happen to have any ideas what’s going on or even better how to get it to act normal? thanks!

Same problem here. I’d be also interested in a solution.
Any suggestions?

 I thought it was my mouse

same problem here :frowning:

This doesn’t happen only in Firefox, I had the same issue with the KDE4 version of openSUSE 11, by right-clicking an icon in the system bar often automatically chose to quit that program. I haven’t noticed this in Gnome yet.

I have this FF issue running openSUSE 11.0 and GNOME. I also thought it’d be my mouse maybe, but the problem occurs way too often and not with another application (at least in GNOME) so far.

I am having the same problem also running firefox on 11.0 using Gnome. I haven’t noticed a problem with any other program either.

No problem here, but to solve the flash/java issues with 64bit openSuSE & FF I have FF from its own folder, and use it from there. Just added libflashplayer.so to the plugins folder and it all works as it should.
Well… scrolling is louzy even with ‘smooth scrolling’ enabled.

Just a quick update - tried to uninstall & then reinstall - doesn’t seem to have helped :frowning:

Just submitted a bug tracker, didn’t appear to be one yet…

Hmmm, odd. I just tested on several websites and both right-click and middle-mouse-button “Open in a new tab” is working perfectly. I wonder what would cause that?

Out of curiosity is your 11.0 a clean install or an update from 10.3? I’m curious as someone indicated that after a clean install they did not see this issue…

I’m running a clean install. Also I am not running Gnome or KDE4. I’m running KDE 3.5.9. I have installed all the updates. Possibly it’s a Gnome issue?

Well, my system is an update from 10.3 and I do use Gnome - I haven’t noticed this behavior in any other apps, but then I can’t say I use right-menus much in any other apps either…

Yup. Same problem here - and I’m still on 10.3. It’s not an issue with openSUSE 11, it’s a Firefox 3 issue.

Also, I find Firefox 3 locks up or crashes frequently on various Web sites I haven’t had trouble with before, such as Huffington Post.

Today I decided to try something, so I backed up my Firefox profile, deleted it, uninstalled Firefox 3, installed the latest Firefox 3.0.1 from the Mozilla repository, and reinstalled most of my previous extensions and my bookmarks.

So far Firefox has been a bit more stable, but I still get the random right click menu selections. And this is really annoying as I use right click constantly to “save image as” tons of babe pictures from the Net!

Serves me right for installing a point zero release of ANYTHING. This is why I’m not upgrading to openSUSE 11 for a while - I just don’t trust point zero releases not to be crap.

Firefox 3.0.x has a LOT of problems. If you Google, you’ll find there are tons of problems on both Windows and Linux.

I mean, Firefox crashes for some people with Gmail! They didn’t test 3 with a variety of common Web sites to pinpoint any specific bugs such as poor JavaScript handling? I mean, really? What kind of QA is that for a browser?

I have to say, I too have had similar issues with FF, though I love it for it’s extensions - I have recently been using seamonkey and opera. I sometimes get url’s acting funny - can’t just remember - but like login buttons I think - asking to save .bin file as? (I should write it down next time).

I have always liked Opera, nice and quick too. Using it now.

I’m running Firefox 3.0-0.2 and 11.0 with no problems… right clicking to open URLs in new tab, and saving images. All working ok, and its as stable for me on this 2 year old DIY PC as on my Macs.

No trouble either with Google reader, Gmail, Evernote, Remember the Milk, you name it… in fact I’m impressed
