11.0 can not start wlan0

I have a rtl8187b and have had it working fine in 10.3 but I reinstalled 11.0 and I can not figure out how to get it working again.

I have tried through yast with no luck. lsusb shows a rtl8187b and ndiswrapper shows “device present”. “ifconfig wlan0 up” shows no such device.

Should I be using the rtl8187 module instead of ndiswrapper? Why can I not get a wlan0?

Thanks

ATM, the rtl8187 module does not support the rtl8187b. There is a
patch that we hope will be included in kernel 2.6.27, but you will
need to use ndiswrapper.

I take it that my .inf file is no good then?

I tried a few different .inf with no luck. I still can not get wlan0 to start. What am I missing? This worked great in 10.3.

I have tried through Yast and manually. lsusb shows the device. ndiswrapper is loaded at boot. ndiswrapper shows “net8187b : driver installed device (0BDA:8189) present”. I have also tried manually creating /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-wlan0.

In Yast I get “Wireless Network Card (No hwinfo)”. How do I tell it to use that USB device?

Thanks again.

I got it, finally. I unplugged it then plugged it back in and it found the hdware info and created wlan1. Then I had ndiswrapper in the wrong module section in my kernel file.

Not sure why I had to unplug it. All fixed now though. Thanks again.
