10.3 updated kernel smpppd disconnect

Installed 10.3 with Kernel 2.6.22.5-31 and was able to connect to the internet using dial-up. I used the online update and installed the new kernel and patches leaving me with 2.6.22.18-0.2 When I reboot and try to connect the kinternet log says:

SuSE Meta pppd (smpppd-ifcfg), Version 1.59 on linux-nil2.
Status is: disconnected
trying to connect to smpppd
connect to smpppd
Status is: disconnected
Status is: connecting
Status is: disconnected
pppd[0] died: pppd options error (exit code 2)

I checked the runlevel and the smpppd was running but wouldn’t connect.

I used the DVD to revert back to the original kernel and everything worked fine. Why does it stop working when I update?:\

If you still care…

I believe that exit code 2 refers to incorrect parameter. I am finghting a PPPoE issue for a while now, and I believe this may happen due to password passing mechanism through a plugin. That’s only a suggestion.
