10.3 Repositories...

Hello, got a 10.3 box here onto which I need to install pnp tools etc in order to get a second NIC working - it’s an ISA 3Com 3c509.

Anyhow, when selecting the Software Mgt tab in Yast, I got errors for all but the updates repo.

I then deleted all the repos except the update one and tried to get them back via the community repos bit.

All I got was a pop-up saying there was an error in loading the given repo. No other info though so anybody has a clue?

TIA

10.3 is no longer supported.

cite for above assertion: http://en.opensuse.org/SUSE_Linux_Lifetime
shows end of live 31 Oct 2009, so you have had no security updates
since then…

probably time to install 11.2 which is the most current version and
will age out in a little over a year, on about 12 May 2011

if you don’t like the short cycle (who does?) you should consider the
much longer support offered by one of th SUSE Linux Enterprise
offerings of Novell.com, or jump ship…

ps: i don’t work for Novell and receive not one part of a penny if you
purchase…

Here are some instructions on how to do a “live” upgrade.

Upgrade/Unsupported - openSUSE

It’s faster and more convenient than a traditional upgrade since it is just a matter of installing updates after configuring the repos. The downside is that it is a bit riskier than a traditional upgrade, so I would make sure to back up your home directory and any other precious configurations you have. The good news is that these live upgrades are officially supported from 11.2 on.

Upgrade/Supported - openSUSE

P.S. Even the “supported” dist upgrade can be a bit tricky (i.e. don’t do what I did by attempting it via SSH with only an hour before having to leave somewhere) :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh Dear :frowning:

Yes, I knew that 10.3 was no longer supported and I know I have had no more sec updates for a few months but I somehow hoped that at least the old stuff would still be available regardless.

I mean, how much disc does it need anyhow?

Oh well. 11.2 will have to wait and I will see if I can get the isa stuff elsewhere.

Thanks anyhow. Cheers

As you have been told 10.3 is out of date. However, the following mirror
still has the repo’s:
ftp://ftp.uni-paderborn.de/pub/linux/opensuse/distribution/10.3

If nothing else you can downloads the rpm’s and install with the rpm command.
