10.3 kernel update killed grub

I just installed the auto update detected kernel update for 10.3 and now boot fails with
File system type unknown, using whole disk
kernel /boot/vmlinux-2.6.22.18-0.2-default
root = /dev/disk/by-id/scsi-36…-part9
vga=0x31a
resume=/dev/sdb5 splash=silent

Error 17: Cannot mount selected partition

The system is 64bit Xeon(r) 5110 at 1.6GHz in a Dell PowerEdge 1900 with LSILogic raid controller

From what I can find online others have had problems with earlier kernel updates but I can not find a solution

Hello
Use the install dvd to “boot existing installation”. When you’re in goto Yast → System → Boot Loader → Other (bottom right) → Propose new configuration —> wait, wait → Tab Boot Loader Installation → checkmark the MBR → finish

That should reinstall a new boot loader (if that’s the broblem)

From grub I edited the new kernel entry and removed the hd0 reference line altogether. The kernel booted and I then patched up grup from YaST.

All is well
