Thread: Online update of 15.3

  1. #1

    Default Online update of 15.3

Has there generally been good success with this procedure for an online update 15.3 -> 15.4?
    https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:System_upgrade
    It recommends runlevel 3

I went through and deleted all repos that didn't list software installed on my system. Do I really need the "backports" repos? (not sure what they are) I'm concerned they don't have a LEAP version number... for supporting the releasever syntax, which I've never done on a dist upgrade before.

    Code:

Repos 2 and 4 were added by 1-click install, are redundant and should be removed.
I'm concerned they don't have a LEAP version number
Version numbers in name or alias are irrelevant, only actual repo URLs matter and you do not show them anyway.

I've done more than 20, maybe closer to 30, just getting to 15.4. Most started out as 15.2, or 15.1, or 15.0, or older, and have been upgraded with zypper following each new release. So I've done several hundred successfully going back to around 11.1 or so.

It's a good idea, and what I do nearly always.

Do I really need the "backports" repos?
    Yes.

To begin with, always include the line with the command when you show output. Now we have a list (ands a rather pointeless one) of what probably are repsitories, but we do not know how yoiu got them.

And, as is already said above, please use a command that show the URLs like
    Code:
    zypper lr -d
Inthis case it could be usefull to check if you have the releasever parameter in the correct place for all repos, this can be seen with
    Code:
    zypper --releasever FOOBAR lr -d

The "extra" repos like games, science, hamradio need to be renamed to their 15.4 terminology for dup to work on these repos. The name terminology changes from "openSUSE_Leap_15.3" in 15.3 to simply "15.4" in 15.4. I am still trying out different dup strategies to update these extra repos using the dup command and retaining all the software I have installed from them. I am running various dry runs.

I'd like to get an update on the "backports" question.

If you have question about specific repository in your list, them at the very least tell which repository it is.

What's important are the URIs *.repo contain, and that some *.repo file include http://download.opensuse.org/update/...5.3/backports/, or equivalent mirrorcache or mirror URI. Mine is named UpdateBP.repo:
    Code:
    # cat /etc/zypp/repos.d/UpdateBP.repo
    [UpdateBP]
    autorefresh=1
