Thread: Cabled network not working

    Default Cabled network not working

    Hi,

I changed a harddrive and when i rebooted the network was not working. The eth0 did not have a ip adress and it seems the setup is still in progress. I did not touch any network settings when I did this change of hardware, but now the internet connection is down on my Opensuse box. I use NetworkManager, but tried to change to Wicked, but did not have any luck. I have different machines using the router, and there is no problem with connection on these machines.

I tried to reboot the router, but to no avail. I have tried to ping from the terminal, but it is no connection.

I need help to search for where the trouble is. Usually the setup file can be deleted and the OS rebuild the setup based on the hardware. What is the easiest way to reset the network setup? I prefer using NetworkManager and use DHCP.

    Hardware details?
    Code:
    /usr/sbin/hwinfo --network

    What does the journal report?
    Code:
    sudo journalctl -u NetworkManager
    * You can direct the output to a text file with
    Code:
    sudo journalctl -u NetworkManager > out.txt
Copy it to a memory stick and post via an internet-connected machine if necessary.

The easiest way is delete all files related to NetworkManager and force a reinstall:
    Code:
    rm -r /etc/NetworkManager
    rm -r /var/lib/NetworkManager
    zypper install --force NetworkManager
    i7-6700K (2016), i5-8250U (2018), AMD Ryzen 5 3400G (2020), 5600X (2022) openSUSE Tumbleweed, KDE Plasma

The log shows that eth1 does get assigned a DHCP address, and a default gateway address and DNS addresses are also provided...

    Code:

    zypper install --force NetworkManager
There should be no need to do that.

So what exactly does not work? Show command that fails. Does "ping 8.8.8.8" work?

Yes I tried to ping 8.8.8.8, and now I get webpages loaded into the browser. Strange. Maybe a stupid question: Can it fix itself?
