Big disaster today....old versions boot up but with error message "Failed to start MACHINE CHECK LOGGING DAEMON"

Could log in after that but network was not configured, nor configurable. Same for my dual displays. How to recover that? Any advice?

I used to have a recovery version that worked but that is now also broken.
