Nvidia beta driver in the nvidia repository

Hi all, recently I learned that there is now a beta driver available in the nvidia repository in the nvidia-compute-G06 package.
Now I do not mind this at all, but I do think that the description of the package should specify that this is a beta driver.

I also wonder why there is a beta driver for a pretty crucial piece of hardware in the repositoriy for a stable distrobution?

Does anyone know why nvidia did this?

Hi
It’s been released with the latest cuda release cuda_11.6.0_510.39.01_linux.run.

Yes but it is labled beta here: Linux x64 (AMD64/EM64T) Display Driver | 510.39.01 | Linux 64-bit | NVIDIA

I think, the maintainer Stefan Dirsch will not read here, maybe its better to ask on the mailing list?

For openSUSE default drivers for Nvidia are nouveau drivers. You complain about closed-source software from external repository which taints Linux kernel.
After installing Nvidia proprietary drivers you cannot call your system “stable”.
